OUR HISTORY
The Passion for Coffee
This story begins with Mr. Miguel Constante, grandfather of Gil César de Melo, a coffee grower who was passionate about coffee and dedicated to his work on the plantation in the city of Campos Altos in the interior of Minas Gerais. His daughter, Elizena Sebastiana de Melo, and son-in-law, João Rafael de Melo, inherited this same passion. Gil's daily interaction with his parents and grandfather made him fall in love with coffee as well.
Gil always had a strong connection to the countryside and cherishes memories of spending weekends and vacations on the farm with his grandfather. When he was just six years old, he was already fascinated by the coffee plantation of that time, which was transported by ox cart.
OUR HISTORY
The decisive moment in Gil's life came when his cousin, who owned a farm, invited him to partner in coffee cultivation. Together, they planted the first 6 hectares, which quickly expanded to 22.
However, there was a moment when the price of coffee dropped to 33 dollars per bag, and so his cousin decided to end the partnership. Faced with this challenge, Gil decided to move forward alone, buying out his cousin's stake in the business and taking over management of the farm.
OUR HISTORY
His wife, Luciana Alves Leandro Melo, was always there to support him in his decisions. From that moment on, she became actively involved in socio-environmental projects on the property, as well as in all aspects of farm management.
Over time, the business prospered, and a 118-hectare coffee plantation was established in a privileged location in Campos Altos and Pratinha, in the Cerrado Mineiro region. They continuously invested in expanding new planting areas and improving processes in the production of high-quality coffee.
OUR HISTORY
New Generation
The couple now has another reason to continue advancing in their business: their children. They are currently the fourth generation of the family. Edu Leandro Melo and Hugo Leandro Melo bring a new perspective to the coffee industry, contributing knowledge and innovation to the business.
Edu joined the company to bring continuous improvements and dedicate himself constantly to processes in the production of specialty coffees. In turn, Hugo is passionate about the coffee production chain, from the early stages to the last details of production. Both work closely with their parents in managing Coffee O'Melo with a single purpose: to produce high-quality coffee with socio-environmental responsibility.
